Safflower is packed full of protein, which is an essential nutrient for our wild birds. Protein is particularly important during the moult season in late summer when they lose their tired worn feathers from the breeding season and regrow new winter ready feathers for optimal warmth and weather protection.

Safflower is also a great source of fat and fibre. It is a great addition to seed mixes and is also disliked by squirrels due to its bitter taste so can be used to deter squirrels from seed feeders!

Due to the hard outer shell safflower may take a bit of time for the birds to figure out how to break open the husk. Once the birds get a taste for it birds like greenfinches will seek it out!
